View looking out of the Doge's palace toward the prison. My Italian is horrific, but I think a guide I overheard said this area was where Casanova made his escape from the prison.

The area near the ceiling of the Grand Council chamber was lined with portraits of the various Doges holding banners that listed their achievements. This is a terrible photo of a painting of Dodge Marin Faliero, who attempted a takeover in 1355. His banner is black because he was a traitor, and his name and accomplishments were supposed to be erased from memory. Obviously they weren't.
